Helping Hand is a nonprofit serving over 700 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Its mission is to transform the lives of all connected to Helping Hand through genuine care and education. Its vision is for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to be equally valued in all communities.
Helping Hand consists of several focus areas. Helping Hand School is a year round therapeutic day school that serves all children with intellectual and developmental disabilities from Early Childhood to Transition.
Helping Hand offers comprehensive adult day programs that create a safe space for clients to learn and develop skills for success within the community and their home.
The Helping Hand employment division helps drive individuals to success in various stages of services including prevocational counseling, career counseling and job maintenance.
Helping Hand offers outpatient programs with therapists who specialize in pediatrics and developmental disabilities. A variety of services are offered including behavior therapy, mental health therapy, group therapy, feeding therapy, hearing screenings, occupational therapy, speech therapy and teletherapy.
Helping Hand also offers residential services in 14 houses located throughout nearby suburbs. These 14 houses become homes as residential team members provide genuine care and education. In this environment, staff prioritize relationship-building and mental health while developing independence in skills of daily living. Through activities within the home, Helping Hand clients grow in their connection with one another, developing friendships and healthy relationship skills.
